What began as Lake Jessup Community was named Oviedo by Andrew Aulin, a Swedish immigrant who was appointed postmaster in 1879. Oviedo incorporated in 1925 with 800 residents. Early settlers drawn to the fertile land in Oviedo grew crops of citrus and celery.
Oviedo is less than 30 minutes drive to Orlando International and Orlando-Sanford International Airports, Amtrak passenger and auto trains and downtown Orlando. University of Central Florida and Valencia College are nearby. Convenient to I-4, SR 417 and SR 50, Oviedo is tucked away from the hectic business beat yet close enough to exciting entertainment, national sports league venues and central Florida attractions like Walt Disney World Resort and Old Town Kissimmee.
